Swedish Lapland Photography Tour 2024 (26/2 Feb - 3/3 March)

One of my absolute favorites about Swedish Lapland is that you will not find roads to the perfect spots and many times they don't exist. There are no given places beforehand. We have to put in the work and at times be in total control of whatever nature has in store for us. All we can guarantee is that you will fully experience the Swedish Lapland on this adventure, a Photographer’s dream. The landscape is authentic and sparsely populated by humans. Except for the sound of water and wind, silence is the only thing you will hear out here. And of course, the ever occurring Wildlife that will be around us at all times, providing perfect opportunities for photography.

The landscape of Lapland takes about a fourth of Sweden's total area, it's large, it's wide and it offers a proper sense of the wild. Even to a Swede like myself, this is an undiscovered place, almost mythical, but no place has given my photography so much in return as the Swedish Lapland. It's unique, versatile, and in constant change. As we enter this magical winter wonderland you will be quite influenced by the large areas of untouched nature, deep forests, and vast mountain landscapes that will stretch out in front of us. We will be riding our snowmobiles into the valleys where many of Sweden’s tallest mountains reside, Pass the beautiful Sapmi villages and photograph everything in between.

Most of the areas we will be in are almost impossible to reach without local knowledge. Our snowmobiles and snowshoes will take us to places unique for each trip we set out to do, and many of them will still remain secret. In order to ensure the highest possible quality, the number of participants on this tour is limited to a maximum of 4 people which means we can move around more freely and customize the adventure depending on the weather and interests for the day.

Our base camp on this trip will be a primitive base in and around Ritsem, This way we will always have the option to move around depending on whatever encounter we will counter. Each tour is unique in that way that they are custom-made after the environment we are in.

We are looking forward to greeting you in Swedish Lapland!

What level of photography is required?

All levels of photography are welcome on our tours, beginners as well as professionals. The only criteria are that you have to have a passion for photography and have the energy and motivation to be on the go every day and night.

What should I bring?

Since we are exploring some of the coldest areas in the Arctic, clothing is essential. This means a good Merino wool baselayer, a proper mid-layer of high-quality fleece or similar, and a super warm down jacket/parka and winter pants. Well-insulated boots (balaclava, water-resistant gloves, hats, heat packs, etc are also highly recommended (A More detailed explanation and help will be provided upon registration, You can also rent shoes, gloves, and hats from us)

Will I experience snow or ice?

Yes. Swedish Lapland will be a Winter Wonderland at this time.

Will I see and photograph the Northern lights?

Most likely yes. We will be watching for the Northern Lights every day on this tour and we have a very high chance of seeing and photographing the show.

What kind of weather can I expect?

The weather in Swedish Lapland varies a lot and it’s tough to predict the weather for each trip. All We can guarantee is that whatever weather we get will be amazing out here. You can expect temperatures down to minus 35 degrees Celsius, but more commonly between -10 to -25 Celsius. March means we will have a bit longer days and more sun hours so there will be a lot of time for photography but also more time to enjoy the magnificent environment we will be in.

What camera gear should I bring?

Bring the camera you have, lenses, a tripod, and a laptop. If you are considering upgrading or investing in new camera gear prior to the trip, feel free to ask us for advice.

How do I get there?

You would need to fly or take the train into either Kiruna Airport (KRN) or Gällivare Airport no later than around noon on the or the day before (recommended). On departure day you can book your flight no earlier than noon as well.
